Northwood Tunis

Tunis sheep are one of the oldest breeds of livestock in the United States. They are characterized by their lovely cinnamon colored bodies and creamy white fleece. It is also a common personality trait for Tunis to love being around children! We are raising quality Tunis for meat production and fiber processing. Our goal is to utilize every bit of the sheep possible, so be on the lookout for wool products like yarn, roving, and sheepskins.

Tunis are on the Livestock Conservancy watch list for being an endangered species. At Northwood, we are working to preserve this rare and lovely breed of sheep. We are also proud to participate in the Livestock Conservancy "Shave 'Em to Save 'Em" initiative. Contact us about purchasing Tunis wool products!

Nice to Meet Ewe!

Virgo

Virgo is one of our very first ewes to come to Northwood! She was bred by Katie Petersen at Pine Run Tunis. Virgo's fleece features the longest staple length and ultimate loftiness.

Greta

Greta was freshly born when we brought her home with her mama, Virgo. Greta has a darker cinnamon coloring than any of our other ewes. She is possibly the cutest of all the Northwood sheep, and she has become a bit famous with her T-shirt design. Check it out in our online shop!

Heidi

Heidi was purchased from Darling Tunis in Ohio. She has a sweet personality and will always accept scratches. Heidi is a great mom and is a a joy to milk. Heidi has been a fan favorite at farmers markets and fiber festivals.

Odette

Odette also came from Darling Tunis, and her facial coloring is much lighter than the rest of the ewes. She's a big girl with a unique look, and she's super friendly to boot!

Leisel

Leisel is the final Darling Tunis ewe. She is always up for snuggles and scratches, and she's an excellent mama. Leisel has the most adorable freckles on her nose, and that's the only way we can tell her apart from Heidi!

Lisette

Lisette was the first ever lamb born at Northwood in 2023. She was a twin out of Liesel, but sadly her sister was stillborn. Lisette is one of the friendliest ewes and we just love her quiet personality.
